2. A film utilizing my type of dancing (if you have any questions, go here - http://fuwa.retro-future.net - and watch the videos on your own time). It would be my goal to use as many different camera angles to make it as interesting as possible.
3. A film in which the main character thinks they are in a video game and therefore interacts with their environment as such. The world itself is normal, however.
For some reason I am really drawn to idea number one. Maybe because it reminds me of Kenneth anger's puce moment. I think you could experiment with these shots and how the materials look on the body, but I would look for a way to take it a step further...maybe that means making these textures interact with something else, something totally opposite of their normal senario.
ReplyDeleteYour first and second ideas seem the most interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting that you mention draping your dresses on "the human form" as opposed to an actual person. I don't know if it is intentional, but your subject matter differs depending on wether or not you use an actual person, as opposed to a mannequin, or a model of human form created from a different material... it is just something to think about.
I do think your second idea could be interesting, especially considering the subject matter. Any videos i have seen based on the dances are done with one single camera angle. How could interesting camera perspectives enhance your dances for the sake of your film?
Your first and second ideas could even be combined somehow. How does wardrobe (and even setting) affect the meaning behind the dances?
i think the first idea, which is most conceptual, is the most intriguing to me. And Natalie's comment about Anger's 'Puce Moment' is spot-on. And i also think that the inherent eerie-ness of that film should be a part of yours as well. Or not, i suppose it's up to you ultimately. I'm interested to see what happens.
ReplyDelete...oh, and no dancing. I think you've made enough videos like that. But if you did do it, I'd like to see it go over the top and just balls to the wall crazy, like with costumes and crazy sets and stuff like that.
I am compelled by the idea of prom dress because i think of all the cheesy 80's prom dresses and i think that would create a very unique scheme to the production. I'm not sure what the content of the film would really entail but the idea of wearing these abundant amount of fabric is interesting.
ReplyDeleteHow about trying to dance while covered in tremendous amounts of prom dress material (perhaps symbolizing the awkwardness of high school dances?)
